Position OverviewThe Illinois Department of Public Health seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as the Marion Regional Health Officer. The officer performs managerial and administrative work overseeing public health operations in Marion. The officer interprets and implements Department policies, providing leadership to regional personnel delivering a variety of public health programs. The officer directs, coordinates, and evaluates all regional program activities to ensure effectiveness and quality of Department initiatives.
The ideal candidate has experience collaborating with local health departments and community organizations, holds a Master’s degree in Public Health or Public Administration, possesses excellent project management and organizational skills, demonstrates strong oral communication abilities, and has at least five years of supervisory experience.

- Plans and executes policies and procedures to ensure effective program operation in the Marion Regional Office.
- Consults with local health department administrators on local and state public health rules and regulations.
- Serves as full‑line supervisor.
- Responds to constituent inquiries.
- Performs other duties as reasonably within the scope of the enumerated duties.
- Four (4) years of college education.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in health or human services.
- Four (4) years of experience working with local health departments and communities.
- Master of Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, or similar degree.
- Knowledge of public health, state agency programs, and service objectives, activities, and operational systems.
- Experience planning and executing policies and procedures.
- At least five (5) years of experience supervising clerical, administrative, and programmatic staff.
- Experience with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Certain revolving door restrictions apply; potential penalties for non‑State employment during or shortly after state employment.
- Employee must file Statement of Economic Interest annually as required by Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
