IL Histology Technician

Position Purpose

Performs routine and specialized moderate complexity laboratory tests on all types of specimens under minimal supervision. Adheres to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department’s policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements. Responsible for routine clerical duties including data entry /ordering tests, diagnosis entry, retrieval of results, charting and faxing results as needed.

Demonstrates competence in care of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Maintains the Mission and Values of the Heartland Regional Medical Center. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care.

High School graduate or high school equivalency required. Some college preferred.

Three years of histology processing experience preferred. Laboratory Information/Data Entry experience preferred but not required. Medical Terminology and diagnosis coding experience preferred but not required. One to two years' experience preferred.

Certified as HT or HLT (ASCP) preferred.

Hourly Range: $28.12 - $42.17

Potential for a performance-based bonus, subject to eligibility criteria and achievement of defined metrics. Details regarding bonus eligibility and performance goals will be provided during the interview process or upon hire.

Eligible for evening/night, weekend shift incentive based on company policies and applicable job codes. Additional details will be provided during the interview process.
