Position Overview

• Facility: Deaconess IL Medical Center
• Specialty: Neuro / Medical-Surgical Telemetry
• Shift: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
• Shift length: 12-hour days
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Start date: ASAP
• Guaranteed hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
• Unit size: 22 beds
• Patient ratio: 1:4
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• Float requirement: May float to the medical unit
• Call/on-call: None
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Every other holiday
• Local candidates: Not accepted within a 40-mile radius

All must be current and submitted with the application:

• Active Illinois RN license
• AHA BLS
• AHA ACLS
• NIHSS — NIH Stroke Scale

• Minimum 2 years of strong Med-Surg/Telemetry experience
• At least 1 previous travel assignment
• Neuro nursing experience
• Recent Epic charting experience
• Strong neurological assessment and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to manage medical overflow patients

The unit cares for neurological and neurosurgical patients, including:

• Stroke/CVA patients
• Patients recovering from elective neck and back surgeries
• Cerebral angiogram patients
• General medical overflow patients

• NIHSS assessments and dysphagia screening
• Neurological assessments and basic telemetry interpretation
• Heparin drip initiation and titration
• Blood and blood-product administration
• Venipuncture and blood cultures
• Straight catheterization and Foley catheter care
• NG tube management
• Indwelling drain management
• Strict intake and output monitoring
• Management of stable infusions, such as Protonix and Lasix

• Required: Associate degree or certificate, as specified in the posting
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree
