Position
Physician – Psychiatrist – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Pay- Base pay: $220,000–$275,000 per year
The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Applicants must submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The role does not apply the 2‑page resume requirement and requires no specific training or license beyond the basic requirements.
Qualifications- United States citizenship; non‑citizens only if no qualified citizen is available
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved school
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or DC
- Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board‑certification eligibility (ACGME or AOA accredited, or other U.S. residency with 5‑year U.S. practice)
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Board‑certified or board‑eligible in a VA core specialty (per VA Handbook 5005 §G‑2)
- Additional requirements per the announcement (including residency status for Physician Resident Providers)
- Provide psychiatric care to veterans in outpatient settings, including assessment, diagnosis, medication management, crisis intervention, and suicide risk assessment.
- Perform psychiatric evaluations for diverse veteran populations (male, female, geriatric, post‑deployment).
- Identify and refer patients to appropriate specialty or community resources such as substance abuse programs, neuropsychology, PTSD clinic, case management, etc.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and primary‑care integrated programs.
- Order diagnostic tests and consultations, interpret results, and make treatment decisions.
- Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies, VISN standards, national statutes, HIPAA, and mandatory continuing education.
- Document patient care in accordance with VA practices.
- Participate in supervision and teaching for residency programs, perform on‑call duties, and assist with other related assignments.
- Work schedule:
Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; occasional after‑hours and weekend calls.
