Position Summary

A optician is an eye care professional who counsels patients through the eyewear selection process, educating them on doctor recommendations and ensuring they achieve the best possible vision. The optician advises patients on lens options, creates a fun shopping environment with fashionable eyewear, and provides superior customer service to foster long‑lasting relationships. This role also involves display design, inventory maintenance, and administrative tasks such as calculating co‑pays, reviewing insurance eligibility, and preparing work orders for the optical lab.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist patients in selecting spectacles, providing education on quality choices, lens selection, and frame styling.
  • Calculate insurance co‑pay based on eligibility.
  • Accurately enter spectacle orders and monitor status for timely delivery.
  • Receive spectacle orders into the system, verify accuracy, notify patients, and schedule dispensing.
  • Contact patients for follow‑up on adaptation to dispensed eyewear and contacts.
  • Perform spectacle adjustments and repairs as needed.
  • Troubleshoot patient concerns with eyewear.
  • Educate patients on care of prescribed eyewear.
  • Maintain inventory of optical retail items and lab supplies, reporting as required.
  • Maintain displays of optical merchandise.
  • Monitor patient flow, communicating delays to other departments.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the doctor and practice leadership.
Physical Demands and Work Environment (per ADA Guidelines)
  • Standing, walking, stooping, grasping, typing, and manual dexterity.
  • Must lift up to 15 lbs from floor to waist, 5 lbs from waist to shoulder, and 5 lbs from shoulder to overhead.
  • Professional medical office environment.
