Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care and dressing needs.
  • Feed residents, provide bedside water, snacks, and transfer residents to and from dining areas as needed and in compliance with nutritional plans of care.
  • Answer resident call lights and respond to residents’ requests for assistance in a timely manner in accordance with facility policy.
  • Maintain resident rooms by making beds or changing linens, cleaning bedside tables and organizing personal belongings as needed.
  • Observe and report any signs of change in residents’ appetite, skin condition or behaviors that are out of the ordinary and in accordance with facility policy.
  • Offer emotional support and actively listen to residents to help them develop trust and achieve independence in daily living.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all residents and their care to ensure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times.
  • Document medical records in accordance with facility policy for any vitals, assistance, etc. provided to the resident.
  • Comply with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintain a clean work environment.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, unless working under a student permit.
  • Certified by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs transferring from another state may work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification; graduating CNA students, not yet certified, may also work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of programs such as Excel and Word.
  • Understanding of the principles of safe effective nursing practices within the State of Indiana.
  • Interpersonal skills, including but not limited to:
    • Assisting licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice for a nurse aide.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
    • Personal integrity and ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel.
    • Ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
    • Judgment in prioritizing tasks, duties and responsibilities in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
    • Discrete handling of confidential information and adherence to corporate compliance and HIPAA.
    • Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and a willingness to handle residents based on their maturity and physical level.
    • Adherence to professional code of ethics.
    • Ability to relay information concerning a resident’s condition to the appropriate staff members.
