Job Summary

As a Meter Electrician, you will install and maintain self‑contained electric meters in the shop and on customer premises. As you advance, you will have the ability to work on various voltage electric meters throughout the territory.
Job DescriptionThis job description is reflective of a Meter Electrician C role. Additional responsibilities and qualifications are required for the higher‑level B‑A roles.
What You’ll Do- Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
- Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters.
- Test single‑phase, network, and polyphase self‑contained meter for proper operation and accuracy.
- Program meters.
- Perform credit and collections related order including disconnect and reconnect for non‑payment.
- Investigate irregular usage.
- Investigate energy diversion.
- Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
- Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment.
- Investigate self‑contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
- Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
- Associate’s Degree in electrical/electronic technology.
- Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician).
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the company’s training and qualification program for this position including classroom instruction, written examination, job mentoring, and job performance demonstrations.
- Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends. Work late shifts as needed.
- Work independently under semi‑direct supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
- Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
- Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
- Promote a positive image of the company to customers and the general public. Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
- Successful candidate must live within a 30‑minute safe driving distance of the Marion Service Center located at 4504 S. Lincoln Blvd., Marion, IN.
- There are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, pre‑employment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.
Compensation Grade: U021‑150
Compensation Range: $30.12‑31.81 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M — Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
