DescriptionThe Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate product costs, supporting month‑end close, analyzing manufacturing variances, and partnering with operations to improve profitability and cost control. This role is hands‑on and highly integrated with production, engineering, supply chain, and plant leadership, pursuing initiatives to continuously improve processes and procedures in support of overall business goals and a culture based on exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
- Analyze and explain purchase price, labor, and overhead variances
- Reconcile inventory accounts and support physical inventory and cycle counts
- Ensure accuracy of WIP, finished goods, and raw material balances
- Review BOMs and routings for costing accuracy in ERP
- Prepare cost‑related journal entries and account reconciliations
- Support monthly close and provide cost reporting to leadership
- Assist with inventory reserve analysis (obsolete, slow‑moving, excess)
- Assist in make‑vs‑buy and pricing support analysis
- Support standard cost rolls throughout the year and budgeting process
- Help improve costing methodologies and ERP utilization
- Support internal and external audits
Support finance team leadership in providing ad‑hoc financial analysis as required - Ensure accounting procedures comply with GAAP and company internal controls
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related field is required
- Working knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing cost accounting principles
- Accounting experience is preferred
- Must have strong communication skills to communicate with other employee owners, team leads, and production supervisors
- Basic Math and Computer Skills
- Highly organized with ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Must have a positive attitude with a customer appreciation mentality
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. as needed
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, and perform repetitive work for long periods of time
- Attention to detail with the ability to problem solve
- Operate with a sense of teamwork
