Reports to:
Activities Director and High School Principal
Qualifications:
Must possess a Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization as mandated by the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Job Goal:
To develop and promote the activity at Marion High School for which he/she is hired
- Assist in organizing, conducting, and evaluating daily practices.
- Maintain inventory and perform periodic safety checks of equipment, supplies, and facilities in his/her care.
- Assist in supervising locker rooms and facilities until all students leave.
- Ensure necessary medical attention is provided.
- Attend all varsity games, matches, and/or meets when not scouting (when applicable).
- Attend required IHSAA and/or IGHSAU meetings and submit all required paperwork.
- Scout when directed by the Head Varsity Coach.
- Assist the Booster Club with needs specific to the activity.
- Attend all meetings called by the Head Coach.
- Check academic progress and eligibility of participants according to Marion Independent Schools, IHSAA, and IGHSAU rules and regulations.
- Establish and enforce regulations of Marion Independent Schools, IHSAA, and IGHSAU; inform participants of policies (Good Conduct, transportation regulations, etc.).
- Promote and remain loyal to the philosophies of the Head Coach.
- Provide feedback and communicate with the Head Coach and/or Activities Director about individual and team issues.
- Model sportsmanship, integrity, and ethical behavior; know the rules of the sport.
- Attend clinics and read literature to stay abreast of changes in the activity.
- Provide the Activities Director with forms, team information, statistics, and school records to run the department effectively.
- Communicate with administration, faculty, Activities Director, parents, students, and staff to maintain an effective Activities Department.
- Work hard, be positive, and be on time.
