Position: Finishing Operator I

Wages for Finishing Machine Operator start at $23.50 per hour up to $28.75 per hour depending on skill level and experience.

Additional $1.50 shift differential for night shift. $1500 retention bonus is paid throughout the first year.

JOB SUMMARY

The person who occupies this position is expected to adjust gluing machines in order to process a flat carton order and oversee its production (complex glue experience a plus).

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Adjust glue machinery to fit the particular style of carton being processed.
  • Maintain machinery at optimum speed; detect malfunctions and make appropriate adjustments quickly.
  • Supervise crew operating gluer machinery, ensuring efficient and safe work; also train feeder/catcher trainees as needed.
  • Assume duties of the Feeder or Inspector when those persons are on breaks (performed for approximately 2 hours per day).
  • Perform maintenance duties on gluer machinery: greasing, oiling, blowing off, glue pot maintenance, bearing and belt replacement, and cleaning parts.
  • Maintain written and electronic records of quality and production using SAP, Ignition software; perform hourly statistical measurements (carton alignment, edge caliper, opening force, glue length, etc.).
  • Make labels per customer specifications.
  • Teach and help fellow operators troubleshoot problems when called upon.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
  • 1‑2 years of machine operator experience required.
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude.
  • Entry‑level computer skills.
  • All requirements for Machine Gluer Operator plus ability to set up and troubleshoot Leary, Mactron, Alpina, and Pafra glue systems.
  • Feeder/Inspector experience preferred; mechanical experience helpful (automotive, small engine repair, etc.).
  • Finishing machine tools (allen wrench, screwdriver, etc.) and knowledge of SAP, RF Gen, and Ignition systems.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
  • Up to 12‑hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off; must be able to work alternate schedules and overtime (early mornings, nights, weekends).
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine lifting up to 20 lbs; occasional team lifting up to 50 lbs; carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices; use of hand and electrical tools.
  • Working conditions include extremes of heat (up to 100° in summer), humidity, noise (must wear hearing protection).
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Working knowledge of finishing machine (gluer) and mechanical aptitude.
