Maintenance Repair Worker 3

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) – Marion Correctional Institute

Responsibilities
  • Lead work direction and training for inmates and staff in semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance repair work (electrical, carpentry, grounds keeping, plumbing).
  • Perform semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance repair of equipment such as light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, and heating/cooling systems.
  • Perform skilled carpentry repairs (doors, locks, cabinets, floors, walls, windows, stairways, partitions).
  • Perform skilled plumbing repairs (water and steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, fixtures, pumps, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, heating radiators, chilled water lines).
  • Perform interior custodial duties (mops, sweeps, waxes floors, washes walls and windows).
  • Perform exterior grounds keeping duties and removal of snow and ice from sidewalks.
  • Inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements on a continuous basis.
  • Conduct systematic and routine preventive maintenance of assigned area.
  • Operate machine tools and welding equipment to repair metal parts and equipment.
  • Ensure secure maintenance of tools and complete tool counts and inventories.
  • Assist in related job crafts as required.
  • Control and restrict inmate movement to assigned areas and conduct searches when a breach of security is suspected.
  • Respond to emergencies, attend meetings and trainings, and participate on institution committees.

    Qualifications
    • Formal education in arithmetic and basic English vocabulary; 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in maintenance repair (basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
    • Valid commercial driver’s license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Ohio Revised Code Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12.
    • Minimum class qualifications for employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
