Job description

Are you passionate about supporting learners to achieve through distance learning? We're looking for a dedicated Learning and Skills Worker to help learners access and progress on distance learning courses, providing practical support with IT accounts, computer-based learning and communication with external tutors, colleges and universities. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in helping learners build confidence, develop new skills and work towards their education goals.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at
HMP Stoke Heath , working as a Learning and Skills Worker . This role is offered on a
permanent, part-time
basis, working
13
hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Stoke Heath, located near Market Drayton in Shropshire, is a Category C prison that houses adult male offenders and young adults. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role

Responsibilities

As a Learning and Skills Worker, you will support learners to access and progress on distance learning courses. This will include setting up and managing learner IT accounts, facilitating learning on computers, helping learners navigate online platforms and course materials, and liaising with external tutors, colleges and universities to support learner engagement and achievement. You will also maintain accurate records, monitor progress and work collaboratively with the wider education team to ensure learners receive the guidance and support they need.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold Hidden Difficulties Level 2 or equivalent (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
  • Hold Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
  • Achieve performance and quality targets
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting
  • Demonstrate positive team working
  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds
  • Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
  • Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team.
