Our client is a well-established and growing food manufacturing organization based in Markham, Ontario. With a strong reputation for quality, operational excellence, and innovation within the food production industry, they are seeking a hands‑on and experienced Accounting Manager to join their leadership team and support continued growth and operational efficiency.
Position OverviewThe Accounting Manager will play a key role in overseeing day‑to‑day accounting operations while supporting the Financial Controller with financial reporting, inventory analysis, cost accounting, and budgeting initiatives. This role is ideal for a strong accounting professional with experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly within food manufacturing or inventory‑driven operations. The successful candidate will be detail‑oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with cross‑functional teams.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Financial Controller with overall accounting operations including:
- Journal entries | General ledger management
- Payroll support | Account reconciliations
- Financial reporting | Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Monitor inventory levels and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reporting
- Produce monthly inventory control and valuation reports including:
- WIP analysis | Finished goods reconciliation
- Inventory valuation | COGS analysis
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting activities for both manufacturing and corporate operations
- Coordinate internal and external audits and support year‑end audit preparation
- Supervise, mentor, and support the accounting team
- Collaborate with operations and production teams to support accurate reporting and cost control initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- CPA designation is considered a strong asset
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Previous experience within food manufacturing or a manufacturing environment is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of:
- Cost accounting | Inventory management
- Production reporting | Experience using ERP systems and accounting software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Collaborative and solutions‑oriented mindset
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
