Job Summary
The Unit Secretary is an essential member of the NICU team, responsible for clerical and receptionist duties, patient registration, and documentation. The role supports the efficient operation of the department and may be trained to assist in all areas of the Childbirth and Children’s Program.
Key Responsibilities- Patient registration, filing, recording, organizing, and entering physician orders into the computer.
- Photocopying, faxing documents, arranging patient transfers, and reordering supplies as needed.
- Receiving visitors, patients, and hospital personnel, answering and directing telephone calls.
- Scheduling appointments and providing information related to patient care, as authorized by a Registered Nurse.
- Supporting payroll and timekeeping activities.
- Previous hospital unit secretary experience.
- Experience in a Maternal/Child Unit (required).
- Sound knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficient computer and typing skills.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team and independently.
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance record, and commitment to a healthy and safe workplace.
- Completion of relevant mandatory education and compliance with hospital policies, health and safety legislation, and best practices.
Saturday/Sunday every 3rd weekend; 8‑hour shifts.

CUP C03 Range: $28.13–$31.65 per hour.
