Senior Construction Inspector

Highway Construction Inspection was established in 1996 to provide Construction Contract Administration services to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. Since that time HCI has expanded their list of clients to include regional governments, municipalities, The Greater Toronto Airport Authority, other consulting engineering firms and private developers.

HCI strives to fulfill their clients’ needs by providing well trained staff that are able to interpret and enforce the owner’s contract documents in a practical manner. HCI’s goal is to complete each project on time and on budget while ensuring that the appropriate specifications, and standards are followed.

HCI is hiring a Senior Construction Inspector to join our team with experience inspecting road construction projects. This position will be based in a site office throughout the Greater Toronto Area, including Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill.

Responsibilities include:

• Witness on-site road construction activities, ensuring conformance with the contract
• Complete safety training as required, and monitor contractor’s adherence to safety requirements
• Ensure all contract standards, specifications, and special provisions are adhered to by the contractor
• Assist the Contract Administrator in coordination of quality assurance sampling and testing according to the contract
• Ensure inspections of the work and administration tasks as detailed in the Contract Administration and Inspection Specifications are being carried out
• Maintain detailed diaries to record daily construction activities and material delivery
• Measure quantities of contract items for progress payments and change orders
• Upload documentation to the project Contract Management System
• Monitor contractor’s traffic control procedures and methods for adherence to Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, Temporary Conditions.
• Any other duties assigned by the Project Manager or General Manager.

• Post-secondary education in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, or equivalent
• Certified by OACETT as a C.E.T.,
  
  C.Tech. or
  
  A.Sc.T and possess the Road Construction Senior Inspector (rcsi) designation, or P.Eng. licensed by PEO
• Minimum 5+ years experience of inspection of road construction projects. Experience on MTO contracts an asset.
• Ontario Class G drivers license in good standing and access to a personal vehicle
• Strong knowledge of OPSS and OPSD
• Ability to interpret contract drawings and specifications
• Working knowledge of legislative requirements for construction projects, including OHSA, Construction Act, On-Site and Excess Soil Management Regulation (O. Reg. 406/19)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented, able to effectively organize contract documentation

The expected wage range for this position is $33 - $43/hr.
