Summary
BGIS Construction Services is a Construction Management business within BGIS. We perform highly collaborative Construction Management services as the prime contractor where our client accounts need responsive, accountable high-quality project delivery with multi-million-dollar project solutions. The Construction Project Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects within the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional construction industry.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for key construction projects.
- Elaborate consistent and reliable project costing templates by unit, division or type.
- Coordinate a cost benchmarking process through the project bid process for all regions.
- Standardize price grid utilization, gather extensive pricing information, for construction, services & divisions.
- Supply consistent data, training and support to the project managers in their estimation efforts and validate certain project estimations.
- Apply estimation expertise and tools to change orders, single source bid, GC unplanned work, for better project value and control.
- Assess and challenge change orders and real market value with project managers and vendors.
- Support the bid leveling process by providing analysis, scope review and trade/supplier follow up if needed.
- Ultimately responsible for the quality & accuracy of estimating process and tools.
- Make sure that proposed project schedule makes sense & is clear.
- Make sure that estimating software is utilized correctly.
- Make necessary adjustments to optimize project estimating.
- Provide checks on individual/discipline estimates.
- Maintain databases within estimating software & tools.
- Collaborate with project managers, design / engineering team, clients and other stakeholders to create or refine divisional scopes of work.
- Technical or bachelor diploma in engineering or construction, or related experience.
- Minimum 5 years of construction/building project estimating experience.
- Construction job site experience is an asset.
- Proficient with estimating software, tools and MS Excel.
- Very good written and communication skills required.
- Strong client focus, proactive, and a desire to achieve results.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent attention to quality, accuracy and details.
- Knowledge of Canadian construction documents, codes and standards.
This is a regular, full‑time position with a salary range of $73,600 - $92,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
