The Opportunity:

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator’s primary function is to support all employees, contractors, by upholding and having a strong commitment to zero harm which encompasses efforts toward environmental stewardship and workplace safety.

You the Candidate:
You are a qualified passionate, diligent and caring Health Safety professional who has experience in the mining industry sector and familiarity with the BC Mine Act working alongside with Indigenous First Nations Communities. This position will be key player in creating a safe preventative and proactive work environment and culture.

You in the Seat - HSE Coordinator:
Reporting to the on-site HSE Superintendent, you’ll work closely with project teams to drive safety initiatives, conduct inspections, investigate and support in the corrective measures and provide recommendations on all incidents, and ensure all actions are implemented in partnership with the site management team.

You will support strong environmental and health safety practices through daily consistent work performance with clear effective communications, planning, monitoring, with all site safety objectives in the field consistent with company guidelines, permits and regulatory requirements and reporting at the Eskay / Skeena Project.

WHAT YOU WILL DO &

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaise with Project Manager daily to foster, promote, and develop a positive and proactive safety culture
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to company HSE Management System by all employees as well as subcontractors
  • Provide suitable safety-related training as required
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and performance at all work locations
  • Investigate all incidents, hazard observations, and near misses
  • Liaise with HR and Project Management with Injury and Claims Management; notably the early Return-to-Work Program when required
  • Assist in the ongoing development and review of risk assessments (JHA) and safe working practices
  • Support all compliance processes as required by provincial, and local agencies, including, BC Mine Act and Work Safe BC
  • Facilitate implementation of the Eskay / Skeena Project Health, Safety and Security Plan
  • Update and maintain all documents and registers and support management of external contractors and consultants
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, procedures and internal controls
  • Facilitate the provision of and maintenance of records in relation to all Project HSE training including toolbox talks, orientations, and weekly Safety Meetings
  • Complete all daily, weekly HSE documentation / record keeping requirements as directed within the HSE Management system, including to maintain all programs
  • Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Posses an established safety certification or designation such as:
  • CHSC Certified Health & Safety Consultant
  • CRST Canadian Registered Safety Technician
  • CSC construction Safety Coordinator
  • NCSO National Construction Safety Officer
  • CRSP Canadian Registered Safety
  • CSO (P), Construction Safety Officer

Minimum of 3 years experience in mineral exploration, mining, heavy civil construction in the Safety profession.

  • Experience with design and implementation of health and safety programs and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to company HSE Management System by all employees as well as subcontractors
  • Ability to analyze incidents to understand and recommend corrective actions as well as improvements to health and safety practices and procedures.
