Purpose

Markham Campus (MC) will embed York University in the heart of one of the most diverse and dynamic urban communities in the province and country. The campus will offer technology and entrepreneurship programs and serve as a unique meeting place for students, employers, start‑up companies, and community partners.

The team champions career development across the student life cycle, nurtures relationships with employer and industry partners, and facilitates valuable work‑integrated experiences for students to accelerate their professional development.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Lab Operations and working under the direction of the AMPD Creative Technologies (CT) faculty head, the Creative Technologies, Lab and Media Assistant supports day‑to‑day activities in the labs. Duties include assisting users, monitoring equipment, coordinating bookings, ensuring spaces are prepared and operational, providing routine guidance to students and casual staff, supporting introductory workshops, setting up and taking down labs for weekly academic schedules, and assisting with basic troubleshooting of equipment and software.

The role ensures a welcoming, functional environment that enables teaching, research and learning.

Education

College diploma in a related field such as media production, digital media, information & communication technology or an equivalent of 2 years of recent experience (within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks.

Experience
  • One year providing technical support in a media lab, digital media environment, computer lab or similar setting.
  • Experience assisting users with basic equipment or software inquiries.
Skills
  • Effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain basic media and technology concepts to users.
  • Customer service orientation and working effectively in a team.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of coordinating schedules or daily activities in an instructional or service environment.
Technical Skills
  • Basic MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with common audiovisual or media equipment (cameras, microphones, VR headsets).
  • Ability to troubleshoot media equipment and software.
  • Ability to support simple media creation tasks (e.g., recording, basic editing).
  • Ability to learn new tools and processes with training.
