Job Summary
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Museum Program Instructor presents and develops exploration‑based, hands‑on outdoor education programming, science public tours, and events for multiple audiences with an emphasis on environment, technology, and history. Total hours vary by season; the role includes daily tour guide shifts (9:30AM‑5:15PM Saturday–Sunday, 11:00AM‑5:15PM Monday–Friday) and flexible public program shifts. Part‑time staff may log up to 24 hours in one week.
Duties & Responsibilities- Provide tour guide services to visitors, leading indoor and outdoor museum tours, answering inquiries, and delivering customer service.
- Conduct daily building checks, opening and closing tour buildings.
- Prepare tours and programs by selecting artifacts, rehearsing scripts, and compiling activities.
- Deliver science and history educational programming to the public, including site tours and hands‑on interpretation for children and youth.
- Assist in preparing program and event materials.
- Conduct scheduled group tours, moving visitors through exhibits and offering information.
- Support special events in interpretive programming and visitor service roles.
- Develop new programming related to outdoor education and lead outdoor education programs with public and camp groups.
- Monitor supplies inventory, report replacements to the Program Coordinator, ensuring site, equipment, and supplies are safe.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new Museum Program Team members.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Enrolled or completed a post‑secondary degree in history, museum studies, education, science, recreation, or a related field.
- Previous experience presenting programming to schools or the public; e.g., historic interpreter, guide at a historic site, or animator at a science center.
- Up‑to‑date Standard First Aid or Intermediate First Aid with CPRC and AED certification.
- HAI FIVE Healthy Child Development certification.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening clearance.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills; strong organizational, follow‑up, time‑management, and multi‑tasking abilities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Proficiency with MSOffice, Outlook, and database management.
- Ability to provide informative commentary and answer questions using materials from the Curator, Program Coordinator, and Education Instructors.
- Valid Ontario ClassG driver’s licence (asset).
- Knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum (asset).
