Position: Health & Safety Advisor (Night)
Location: Whitchurch-Stouffville

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Health & Safety Advisor, Night provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and best practices while helping to build a strong safety culture. The Health and Safety Advisor works closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders to identify hazards, reduce risks, and promote safe work practices across all operations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections and audits at nights and occasional weekends on call
  • Investigate safety incidents, identify root causes, and prepare detailed reports
  • Advise and coach managers and supervisors on H&S compliance and best practices.
  • Review incident and inspection reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safe work practices, job hazard analyses, and safety documentation.
  • Support WSIB claims management and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Maintain company emergency equipment inventory (first aid kits, extinguishers, etc.).
  • Lead or participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.
  • Support the facilitation of ongoing H&S training.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the HSE program and support accreditations (e.g. ISO 45001and SOSE).
  • Perform other H&S duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally within construction or industrial environments
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, HSE Management, Safety Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA and applicable regulations, with hands‑on experience in areas such as WHMIS, fall protection, PPE, equipment safety, emergency response, and site hazard controls
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience managing WSIB claims and return-to-work programs
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and support teams across multiple levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience in hazard identification and incident review
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast‑paced environment, while maintaining a high standard of safety and compliance
  • Committed to staying current on industry trends and applying best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Preferred (Assets)
  • Professional certification such as CRSP, NCSO, or equivalent is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards and supporting certification or compliance processes is an asset
  • Experience leading JHSC meetings and facilitating safety training programs
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • This is a night shift, field‑based role, supporting operations during overnight hours
  • Based out of Stouffville, with regular travel required to various project sites across Southern Ontario
  • Work is primarily conducted outdoors on active construction sites, in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable navigating uneven terrain and active job sites
  • Involves a mix of hands‑on fieldwork and administrative tasks (reporting, documentation, coordination)
