Job Description
AECOM is hiring for Project Director / Senior Project Manager to be based in the Greater Toronto Area to provide project management services and to oversee a portfolio of projects that can range from $100K to $20M in fees, requiring complex coordination across multiple systems and processes, including design development, project procurement support, engineering services during construction, start‑up and commissioning and post‑construction services.
Responsibilities
Oversee the delivery of successful projects – ensure financial performance, client satisfaction, risk mitigation, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Accountability and oversight – uphold corporate and client standards across all projects.
Support project managers – mentor project managers and deputy project managers, provide escalation support (internal and external), and maintain project‑level quality.
Effectively resolve challenging and unusual business problems in areas of risk, financial, contract and resource management.
Act as primary escalation point of contact with client for projects managed.
Responsible for regular project progress reports to the clients and AECOM Management.
Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.
Stay abreast of industry standards and approaches and implement best practices.
Engage hands‑on in the project management and technical execution of assignments through to successful project completion.
Ensure project work is undertaken in accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
8+ years extensive experience in project management of water/wastewater treatment, or municipal/industrial infrastructure projects exceeding a minimum of $10M.
Solid technical skills in one of the practice areas of water/wastewater treatment, or municipal/industrial infrastructure, developed within a professional services environment, ideally with consulting engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
20+ years extensive experience in the management of projects exceeding $50M.
Registration or ability to obtain professional registration with PEO.
Exceptional client care and service delivery skills.
Experience working with geographically dispersed project teams that have successfully delivered major design projects within budget and on schedule.
Experience leading and developing multi‑discipline project teams that may reside in multiple offices and in multiple countries.
Professional Engineering licensure in other provinces and countries.
Proven project management skills including PM certifications.
Keen business acumen coupled with strong business development experience.
