Amphenol is seeking a hands-on Engineering Co-op student to support laboratory testing, hardware setup design, and fixture development for front-end I/O connectors used in next-generation AI and Machine Learning (ML) platforms.
This role focuses on practical engineering in a lab environment, including building and validating test setups, supporting high-speed measurements, and developing custom fixtures for reliable and repeatable testing.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Validation- Execute electrical, mechanical, thermal and environmental testing of high-speed connector systems.
- Operate lab equipment such as VNAs, oscilloscopes, TDR systems, and thermal equipment.
- Collect and analyze test data to evaluate performance.
- Troubleshoot test issues and support resolution.
- Design and assemble test setups for connector validation.
- Design hardware and system test solutions.
- Support development of test boards, breakout interfaces, and cable assemblies.
- Optimize setups for signal integrity and measurement accuracy.
- Translate test requirements into practical hardware solutions.
- Design custom mechanical fixtures for testing.
- Create CAD models and drawings for lab hardware.
- Support fabrication and iteration of fixtures.
- Ensure precision, durability, and usability.
- Document test procedures, setups, and results.
- Maintain organized lab records and reports.
- Support improvements in lab workflows and processes.
- Work with electrical, mechanical, and product engineers.
- Support validation tied to development programs.
- Assist in design reviews and technical discussions.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Strong interest in hands‑on lab work.
- Basic understanding of circuits and mechanical design.
- Familiarity with CAD tools is an asset.
- Strong problem‑solving and attention to detail.
- Experience with lab instrumentation.
- Exposure to high‑speed or RF concepts.
- Hands‑on prototyping or soldering experience.
- Familiarity with PCB or test board design.
- Experience building fixtures or setups.
- Experience in engineering lab environments.
- Exposure to high‑speed interconnect validation.
- Skills in fixture design and hardware debugging.
- Mentorship on advanced hardware platforms.
The base pay range for this position is $20-$30 per hour. In determining the rate of pay, Amphenol considers a variety of nondiscriminatory factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant industry experience, qualifications, skills, and education.
