Design Engineer
Overview
Multimatic is a global enterprise supplying engineered components, systems and services to the automotive industry. Multimatic Technical Centre (MTC), located in the heart of Multimatic’s Markham, Ontario campus, provides advanced design engineering, simulation, and testing to Multimatic’s manufacturing divisions, automotive OEMs, and motorsports organizations. Co-located with Multimatic’s prototype manufacturing and Motorsports team enables industry leading rapid development cycles through strong collaboration.
The RoleMultimatic’s Mechanisms Engineering team is looking for talented Design Engineers to help create innovative solutions for the world’s leading OEMs. Our team develops everything from Side Door Hinges to advanced motion systems, including Active Aerodynamic Devices and Power Door™ actuators. In this role, you’ll take automotive components from concept through to high-volume production, ensuring they meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.
This role is on-site Monday to Friday.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings with GD&T, and engineering documentation such as DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, tolerance stack-ups and other engineering calculations
- Lead product development through defining and reviewing virtual and physical validation studies
- Work in close partnership with program management, process and quality teams at Multimatic’s manufacturing divisions to support DFM, DFA, and VA/VE activities
- Collaborate with Multimatic’s Electronics and Software teams to deliver integrated solutions for powered mechanisms
- Hands-on assembly of new design concepts to support prototype builds, testing, and validation
- Communicate directly with customers to understand technical requirements, provide design solutions and program updates
- Generating innovative design concepts to satisfy OEM customer requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in design process and product performance
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of proven experience in automotive component design
- Proficient in CAD software (CATIA or NX preferred) for 3D modelling and GD&T drafting
- Strong knowledge of kinematics, materials, and design for high-volume manufacture and assembly
- Understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, structured root cause analysis methods
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
- A genuine passion for mechanical design and the automotive world — ideally demonstrated through personal projects, Formula SAE participation, or hands-on work with your own vehicles.
