Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geotechnical Engineer to join their engineering team in Markham, Ontario. This is a full-time, on-site position suited for an engineer with strong technical knowledge in geotechnical investigations, soil mechanics, foundation design, construction support, and technical reporting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and supporting geotechnical site investigations, reviewing subsurface conditions, analyzing field and laboratory data, preparing engineering recommendations, and contributing to the successful delivery of infrastructure, land development, commercial, industrial, and construction-related projects.
This role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and support geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, test pits, sampling programs, field testing, and site observations
- Review and interpret soil, rock, groundwater, and laboratory testing data to support engineering analysis and design recommendations
- Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, technical memoranda, letters, field review reports, and construction support documentation
- Provide recommendations related to foundation design, bearing capacity, settlement, excavation support, slope stability, retaining walls, pavement design, and groundwater considerations
- Perform geotechnical analyses using accepted engineering methods, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices
- Support construction-phase services, including site reviews, field inspections, contractor coordination, and review of geotechnical-related construction activities
- Evaluate geotechnical risks and provide practical recommendations to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery
- Collaborate with civil, structural, environmental, hydrogeological, and construction teams on multidisciplinary projects
- Review drawings, specifications, investigation findings, and construction documents for technical accuracy and project alignment
- Communicate with clients, contractors, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams in a professional and timely manner
- Assist with proposal preparation, cost estimates, work plans, project schedules, and scope development as required
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable engineering standards, quality procedures, health and safety requirements, and project-specific guidelines
- Mentor junior technical staff, field technicians, and EITs where required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field is considered an asset
- P.Eng. designation with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligibility for registration with PEO, is preferred
- Experience in geotechnical investigations, soil mechanics, foundation design, and construction support
- Knowledge of slope stability, retaining wall systems, excavation support, ground improvement, settlement analysis, and groundwater-related considerations
- Experience preparing geotechnical reports, technical recommendations, field reports, and construction review documentation
- Proficiency with geotechnical software and engineering analysis tools
- Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, design guidelines, and engineering practices in Ontario
- Previous experience in engineering consulting, construction, land development, infrastructure, or municipal projects is considered an asset
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong report-writing ability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required

They will be comfortable working in both office and field settings, coordinating with project stakeholders, and contributing to high-quality engineering deliverables.
