Nord Space () is a Canadian startup with the mission to advance life on Earth, from space. Nord Space is committed to extremely rapid innovation and development of the most ambitious aerospace projects with the most ambitious team. With divisions spanning everything from space robotics to satellites to rockets, Nord Space is driven to bring space closer to Earth and inspire generations of space explorers.
Aboutthe Role
As an Electromechanical Test Engineer, you will support our Test Engineering team through hands‑on design work as we build Canada’s orbital rocket test site. As the test site rapidly grows, so will your role evolve into a rigorous Test Engineer with the skills to plan and safely run test campaigns. You will also be supporting other subsystems in analyzing test results and incorporating the best practices and lessons learned into future testing scenarios.
This is an ideal role for an early‑career engineer eager to grow their testing skills and learn from an experienced team.
Core Responsibilities- Assist our Test Engineering team in the design, build, and commissioning of major test infrastructure (including propulsion, structures, and avionics).
- Support the development of testing standards, procedures and plans for Nord Space test stands.
- Work closely with design engineering teams to plan and then conduct rigorous testing.
- Develop CAD and FEA models and maintain precise technical documentation.
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to source components and manage fabrication processes for hardware used during testing.
- Draft comprehensive test reports and meticulously execute established test procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, or electrical engineering, or related field.
- 2-3 years of mechanical or electrical engineering experience (experience gained through university design teams (such as rocketry or FSAE) and internships is acceptable).
- Foundational understanding of requirements, interfaces, configuration control, and verification & validation, with a willingness to learn on the job.
- Proven experience taking a mechanical or electrical design from initial concept all the way through validation testing.
- Hands‑on experience working in testing environments in industry. Rocket propulsion or gas turbine testing is considered ideal, but other lab or heavy industry (oil & gas, mining, nuclear, chemical engineering) environments are transferable.
- Practical experience configuring and utilizing Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems and sensors.
- Experience with fluid dynamics and/or structural calculations, especially CFD and FEA.
- Willing to perform duties in outdoor conditions and travel extensively to remote offsite testing areas.
- A structured, detail‑oriented mindset with strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to collaborate closely with the team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Legally authorized to conduct work within Canada.
- Experience collaborating with multi‑disciplinary engineers to develop comprehensive test plans is an asset.
- Experience with NI DAQ units and LabVIEW is an asset.
