Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Agribusiness Officer, the Vice President, Industry & Government Relations is well versed in the poultry supply management environment, and the globally competitive the pork industry. This Executive manages relations with government departments, commodity boards, and elected officials at all levels. While building Sofina’s profile within industry, the Vice President, Industry & Government Relations excels at communication, building relationships, and strategy development related to organizational needs.

The Vice President, Industry & Government Relations also represents Sofina on industry committees, and leads/facilitates projects where cross functional consultation is required to develop a company position on an industry issue and/or government consultation.

Key Accountabilities:

Develop and manage relations with elected officials (specifically Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Health) to influence evolving policy discussions and developments, while anticipating new challenges and crafting recommendations.

Build a strategic communications plan for use with provincial and municipal governments, with the goal of creating government “speed dial” relationships, and execute against the plan on an agreed time frame.

Maintain intimate knowledge of government programs at all levels, for such items as financial assistance, grants, and interest free loans.

Provide council to Sofina’s agriculture, live procurement, hatchery, and field service teams through timely communication, strategic discussions, and collaborative decision making to advance the effectiveness of these teams when dealing with marketing boards, CFIA, or other government departments..

Participate with other colleagues at industry association meetings, ensuring company opinions and views are expressed.

Demonstrate strong program and project governance and delivery skills when managing Sofina government or industry deliverables – initiation, planning, execution, status reporting, financials, stakeholder management, resource management, risks, issues, dependencies and prioritization.

Lead the publication of quarterly communication newsletters for farmers so Sofina may interact with farmers to provide timely information, encouraging collaboration, and sharing best practices.

Assists the Chief Agribusiness Officer as required with other high profile, or significant projects, as required.

Requirements:

University degree in a related field (business/economics/operations)

Minimum of 10 years of industry related experience, specifically in supply management policy.

Clear understanding of project management principles and guidelines.

Demonstrated leadership and change agent skills, as displayed by proven results.

Ability to collaborate with multiple functions simultaneously while efficiently delivering business objectives.

Strong analytical skills coupled with a solid attention to detail

Excellent relationship building skills, communication skills and a strategic thinker

Ability to solve problems independently
