The Unit Secretary is a valuable member of the NICU and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties as well as patient registration. Responsibilities

The clerical aspect of the role includes: patient registration, filing, recording, organizing and entering physician orders into the computer, photocopying, faxing documents, arranging patient transfers, reordering supplies as needed. Created with Sketch.Communication
The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients and/or hospital personnel on the department, answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel, scheduling appointments and giving information related to patient care as authorized by a Registered Nurse. This wole will also support payroll and timekeeping.Requirements

Previous hospital unit secretary experience. Experience in a Maternal/Child Unit is required. Sound knowledge of medical terminology. Proficient computer and typing skills. Created with Sketch.Initiative
Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard. Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital-related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required. Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment. Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills.
