The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the enterprise-wide data architecture strategy to support business objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term scalability. This role provides architectural leadership across data platforms, analytics, integration, governance, and information management, ensuring data is treated as a core enterprise asset.

Operating at both a strategic and execution-enablement level, the Enterprise Data Architect establishes data architecture standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks while guiding delivery teams to ensure consistent, secure, and scalable implementation across the enterprise.

This role serves as a key authority within the enterprise architecture community and partners closely with executive leadership, domain and solution architects, and business stakeholders to enable data-driven decision-making and enterprise transformation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Enterprise Data Strategy & Architecture
  • Defining and owning Enterprise Data Architecture (conceptual, logical, physical models);
  • Establishing and maintaining enterprise data strategy aligned with business priorities;
  • Defining target-state and transition architectures for data platforms;
  • Ensuring alignment with broader enterprise and domain architecture standards; and
  • Acting as architectural authority for enterprise data design patterns.

The Enterprise Data Architect plays a critical role in ensuring that data architecture supports business objectives while maintaining compliance with regulatory obligations. This position requires defining both target-state and transition architectures for enterprise data platforms, analytics, and reporting capabilities.

Architecture Governance & Standards
  • Establishing and enforcing enterprise-wide data architecture standards and policies;
  • Owning core data architecture artifacts (models, lineage, maps, flow documentation);
  • Reviewing and approving architecture deliverables from solution teams and vendors; and
  • Governing architectural decision-making for consistency and scalability.
Data Governance, Quality & Master Data

This responsibility area focuses on defining and supporting enterprise data governance frameworks, including ownership, stewardship, lineage, and classification. The Enterprise Data Architect establishes architectural patterns for Master Data Management (MDM) and reference data, ensuring these critical data assets are properly structured and maintained.

The role ensures that enterprise data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable across all systems and platforms. This involves close collaboration with data governance and business teams to define quality standards and remediation approaches, creating a comprehensive framework for data quality management throughout the organization.

Platform Enablement & Solution Design

The Enterprise Data Architect provides architectural leadership for enterprise data platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics solutions. This involves defining architectural standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption to ensure consistent and efficient data platform operations.

The architect guides solution and delivery teams on data modeling, performance optimization, scalability patterns, and integration approaches. A key objective is to ensure that enterprise data solutions effectively support operational needs, reporting requirements, and advanced analytics capabilities, enabling the organization to derive maximum value from its data assets.

  • Providing architectural leadership for data warehouses and data lakes;
  • Defining standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption;
  • Guiding teams on data modeling, performance, and scalability patterns; and
  • Supporting operational, reporting, and advanced analytics needs.
Stakeholder & Collaboration Management

The Enterprise Data Architect partners with executive leadership, business leaders, and product teams to translate business needs into enterprise data capabilities. Acting as a trusted advisor, the architect provides strategic guidance on data strategy, architecture, and investment decisions.

Collaboration extends to security, privacy, and risk teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and security requirements. The role requires the ability to communicate architectural decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior and executive stakeholders, ensuring that data architecture initiatives are understood and supported at the highest levels of the organization.
