Senior Data Engineer

Job Description

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Data Architecture, the Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and modernizing enterprise data integrations that support business transformation initiatives across Extendicare. This individual will develop scalable cloud-based integration frameworks, support acquisition-related data migration efforts, and help advance our cloud data capabilities while mentoring team members and promoting best practices across the organization.

This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.

• Design, build, test, and deploy data integration solutions between enterprise applications and business systems.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes using Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, Python, Power Shell, and Azure technologies.
• Support cloud transformation initiatives, including modernization of legacy integrations and migration of on-premise data solutions.
• Build scalable integration frameworks that support acquisition, migration, and business transformation projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues, integration failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformation processes.
• Implement monitoring, error handling, logging, auditing, and alerting capabilities to ensure reliable and secure data pipelines.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand integration requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and promote best practices related to data security, governance, and privacy.
• Mentor team members and share knowledge to help grow internal cloud and data integration capabilities.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering, ETL Development, or Data Warehouse Development.
• Advanced experience with Microsoft SQLrver, SSIS, Python, and ETL development methodologies.
• Experience with Azure cloud technologies, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, or similar platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality and accuracy.
• Experience integrating data from APIs, relational databases, flat files, Excel, XML, and JSON data sources.
• Ability to work independently, manage technical initiatives, and effectively collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.
• Experience supporting cloud migration initiatives, handling sensitive data (PII/PHI), Workday integrations, Snowflake, and/or AWS environments is considered an asset.
