A wealth of applications. Umicore is an expert in developing products and processes based on precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new processes. Which is where you come in.
- Responsible for troubleshooting issues and provide solutions for maintenance or external contractors.
- Understanding all processes and equipment at sweeps, melting furnaces, Au refining, wastewater treatment and assay methods, and provide adequate support for areas in need.
- Provide support in processing different types of refining material.
- Run trials.
- Manage the metal balance of refining processes.
- Manage process improvement projects for refining and sweeps processing.
- Manage quotes/CAPEX and commissioning of new process equipment.
- Handle customer complaints – start internal or external investigations based on complaint and provide feedback to customer service.
- Perform Process Risk Assessment and HAZOP (Hazards and Operability study).
- Cover key roles in Refining departments such as team lead at 951, some assayers, chemical operator.
- Follow all EHS, IMS and other company rules and wear all required PPE.
- Ensure health, safety and environmental rules are followed at all times and support the initiatives of the JHSC.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- 3‑4 years in chemical manufacturing.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Health and safety training is an asset.
- Ability to work safely in a hot environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Strong verbal and written reporting skills.
- Understanding of pumps.
- Effective both when working independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision once an assignment is fully understood.
- Results oriented and focused on deadlines.
- Attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn.
- Understanding of WHMIS, MSDS, etc.
- Hands‑on, results‑oriented position; comfort on a shop‑floor production/processing environment is key.
- AI is not being used to screen, evaluate or select candidates.
- The starting rate for this position is $66,800.
