Position: Manager, Research & Development (Hard Cheese )

Our client, a leading food manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Manager, Research & Development to lead innovation, product development, and process improvement initiatives within its hard cheese portfolio.

This is an opportunity for a hands‑on R&D; leader who combines robust technical expertise with the ability to lead projects, influence cross‑functional teams, and drive new product development from concept through commercialization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of new product innovation, formulation optimization, and process improvement initiatives within the hard cheese category.
  • Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, objectives, and business priorities are achieved.
  • Design, oversee, and interpret research activities, plant trials, and product validation programs.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales teams to successfully execute development projects.
  • Identify and support cost‑saving opportunities through ingredient optimization, process improvements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Investigate product and manufacturing challenges, develop solutions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and product knowledge to support commercialization and customer‑facing materials.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of R&D professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability, and career growth.
  • Support a safe working environment while ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Key Qualifications
  • University degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience within the food or dairy manufacturing industry.
  • Experience leading product development, innovation, and commercialization projects.
  • Strong understanding of food manufacturing processes, formulation, and product functionality.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and Canadian food regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional projects and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to balance technical details and business objectives.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Previous people’s leadership experience is considered an asset.
  • A master’s degree or PhD is considered an asset.
