Position: Laser / Photonics Technician (Night Shift)

We are located near Highway 407 and Woodbine Ave in Markham, ON.

The Opportunity
We are looking for a full-time Laser / Photonics Technician to support our Transducer Manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and testing of transducers and related assemblies using laser and metallization equipment, precision measuring tools, and microscopic assembly techniques.

We are ideally looking for someone with a photonics background, but candidates with a strong mechanical/machining foundation — CNC operation, machining, hands-on troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance — are equally encouraged to apply. This is a hands-on, equipment-focused role suited to someone mechanically inclined who is comfortable working with precision instruments in a lab/manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Fabricate, test, assemble, and characterize high-frequency arrays and ultrasound scanning mechanisms following established procedures

Operate and become proficient with laser machining and sputtering/metallization equipment

Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC and precision machining equipment used in fabrication and assembly

Perform assembly and inspection duties using microscopes, micro-dispensers, and other precision equipment

Track and maintain inventory of materials required for array production

Evaluate and contribute to improving current assembly and manufacturing procedures

Assist in the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment used on the fabrication and assembly lineslid

Inform management promptly of deviations from documented manufacturing processes

Keep management informed on the status of the array manufacturing processlid

Work staggered hours/shifts as required, including occasional weekend work and overtime

Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management

Relationships
This position reports directly to the Supervisor, Transducer Manufacturing. Internally, the Laser/Photonics Technician is expected to promote positive and effective working relationships and collaborate to deliver quality service.

Education

College diploma/certificate in Photonics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering Technology/Technician — preferred

Equivalent hands‑on experience in CNC machining, precision manufacturing, or mechanical troubleshooting will be strongly considered in place of a photonics‑specific background

Required Knowledge & Experience (or Related)

Hands‑on, mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting instincts

Experience with CNC machining, machine setup, and operation is a strong asset

Handling of small, delicate objects with precision

Use of precision measuring equipment

Working under microscopes/stereoscopic microscopes for assembly and inspection

Knowledge of Health & Safety protocols

Preferred (Asset) Knowledge & Experience

Operation of excimer gas lasers and laser micro‑machining

Thin-film metal deposition processes and equipment

Adhesives and high-performance polymers

Miniature manufacturing/assembly experience

Handling of fine powders, chemicals, and hazardous materials/waste (storage, disposal, MSDS)

Cleaning procedures for precision components

Electrical testing

Skills

Precision assembly under a microscope

Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination

Excellent troubleshooting skills

Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent organization, documentation, and prioritization skills
