Archaeology Field Supervisor

Position: Archaeology Field Supervisor )
Position Overview  Archaeology Field Supervisor to support work in the Hamilton/Stoney Creek, Ontario office for the 2026 archaeology field season (anticipated start date of March 2026).

Key Responsibilities   Organize, lead, and supervise field technicians to deliver high‑quality archaeological services.
Supervise and perform archaeological assessments and mitigations using approved field methodologies (survey, testing, excavation, surface collection, monitoring).
Ensure quality control of fieldwork and data and complete work in accordance with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM) Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
Lead and motivate the field team to achieve productivity goals.
Respond to changing project, equipment, material, and personnel needs.
Work in compliance with occupational health and safety policies and Stantec HSSE program, policies, and safe work practices.
Collaborate with senior technical advisors, Project Managers, and Task Managers to deliver high‑quality products that meet client needs.
Assist senior technical advisors in developing advanced techniques, documents, and tools.
Work with Indigenous communities to develop and maintain relationships of mutual trust, respect, and collaboration.
Travel within Ontario and be available for overnight stays on extended durations as required.
Qualifications   Thorough understanding and application of MCM Standards and Guidelines and associated Technical Bulletins.
Working knowledge of Indigenous and Euro‑Canadian archaeological resources, artifacts, stratigraphy, features, and settlement patterns.

Experience with ArcGIS and other digital data applications, transits and total stations.
Preparation and maintenance of detailed field notes, drawings, and maps.
Leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and rigorous quality control.
Experience working effectively in a team and independently as needed.
Understanding of HSSE policies and procedures, including client‑specific training.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Conscientious, organized, disciplined, and goal‑oriented.
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks under adverse weather conditions.
Good driving record and valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience  Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) in archaeology or an equivalent combination of education (cultural resources, heritage, anthropology) and experience. Minimum of a research license in good standing with the MCM. Minimum of one year of proven field experience (Stage1–4 AA) as an Archaeology Field Supervisor in Ontario consulting archaeology; greater experience preferred. Experience directing Stage3 assessment and Stage4 excavation is a valued asset.
Compensation & Benefits  Unionized position under the Collective Agreement between Stantec and LiUNA. Hourly wage ranges from $32.22 to $38.47 per hour, depending on the number of complete field seasons of experience.
Employment Conditions  Full‑time, regular employee status. Travel within Ontario required. Position governed by the Collective Agreement and Stantec policies.
