Senior Synthetic Organic Chemist
Reports To:
Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry transformations and methodologies such as liquid‑liquid extractions, adsorptions, column chromatography, TLC, etc.
- Plan and execute R&D projects independently, including background, patent and literature searches, and setting up timelines and milestone plans.
- Perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data supporting scientific investigations, publications, and patents.
- Design and execute experimental setups independently and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience preparing a diverse range of synthetic compounds.
- Plan and execute R&D experiments.
- Analyze and characterize organic chemistry molecules using techniques such as FT‑IR, UV, HPLC, LC/MS, LC/MS/MS, GC, GC/MS.
- Understand cGMP, quality, and regulatory requirements for drug substance and drug product manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Health Canada, FDA, and ICH guidelines.
- Ensure all documentation—including lab reports, records of procedures, results, and data analysis—are accurate and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) guidelines.
- Conduct multiple projects simultaneously while being detail oriented.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

- Maintain a safe and well‑organized laboratory work area.
- Must possess permanent Canadian residency with work permit and/or Canadian citizenship.
- Must be living in Canada, preferably in the Toronto area.
- Minimum M.Sc. with a minimum of 2 years experience or
B.Sc. with a minimum of 3 years industry experience, preferably in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical analytical chemistry. - Preference given to those with an emphasis in organic chemistry; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a higher degree.
- Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and hands‑on experience in the synthesis of complex organic molecules.
- Well‑versed in USP, BP, EP, and JP methods and specifications.
- In‑depth knowledge and competency in cGMP/GMP, GDP, GXP, FDA CFR 211, ICH, and ALCOLA+ regulation and quality systems.
- Solid technical knowledge and extensive expertise in operation, qualification, troubleshooting, and maintenance of sophisticated laboratory instrumentation including LC/MS, LC/MS/MS, UPLC, HPLC, GC‑Headspace, and GC/MS.
- Experience with state‑of‑the‑art techniques and characterization of synthetic molecules.
- Highly motivated with a proven record of success in multiple projects.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and possess strong communication/teamwork skills in a dynamic environment.
- Must be punctual, a team player, a rapid learner, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
