Your Opportunity
As part of our Environmental Services team, the Archaeology group has an opportunity for seasonal Field Laborers /Technicians based out of our Hamilton ON office for the 2026 archaeology field season (anticipated start date of April & May, 2026).
At Stantec, you will find that our work reaches various sectors and industries, including transportation, community development and infrastructure, oil and gas, and aggregates and mining, to name but a few. Our upcoming 2026 archaeological field season is anticipated to be busy and rewarding, with opportunities to work on large and complex archaeological projects. As a member of the Stantec archaeology team, you will complete physically demanding outdoor fieldwork across Ontario under varied weather conditions, with start and end dates based on project needs.
Field work will often require travel within Ontario, including working out-of-town with overnight stays for both short and long durations.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Under the direction of licensed archaeologists, the successful applicant(s) will assume responsibility for carrying out Stage 2-4 archaeological field work. Including but not limited to:
Test pit and pedestrian survey. - Archaeological site excavation.
- Artifact collection and site documentation.
- Work will comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures and Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) program, policies, and safe work practices.
- Follow the directions of licensed archaeologists, senior technical advisors, Project Managers, and Task Managers to deliver high-quality products that meet our clients’ unique project needs.
- Work with Indigenous communities to develop and maintain relationships of mutual trust, respect, and collaboration.
- Must have past work experience with physically demanding outdoor labor and the ability to carry out strenuous fieldwork is essential.
- Applicants must be able to travel within Ontario and able to work out-of-town and overnight for both short and long durations.
- A full G driver’s license in good standing is preferred, and licensed drivers may be required to drive company vehicles as part of their work.
- Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Current undergraduate or graduate students in anthropology or archaeology are encouraged to apply, but not a requirement.
- Field work will include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Wages- Under the Collective Agreement between Stantec and LiUNA, the hourly wage for the Archaeology Field Technician position for the 2026 field season ranges from $24.12 to $29.71 per hour, dependent upon the number of complete field seasons of experience in the Cultural Resource Management sector.
Please be advised that the Field Technician position you are applying for is unionized. The terms and conditions of employment including benefits will be governed by a Collective Agreement between Stantec Consulting Ltd. and LiUNA as well as any applicable Stantec Consulting Ltd. policies.
Pay Range- Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario: $41,900.00 - $56,600.00 Annually
- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario: $44,400.00 - $60,000.00 Annually
