Co-op Researcher - AI Storage

Overview

Huawei Canada has an immediate co-op opening for a Researcher.

The Emerging Storage Lab is a research group based at Huawei Canada's Toronto Research Centre that focuses on next-generation data and storage technologies and innovations. Our team comprises graduate computer engineers and computer scientists with diverse industry experience, ranging from 0 to over 20 years. This lab investigates data storage topics including data management, data catalog, data fabric, file systems, storage networks, and AI storage to advance the field and drive data storage innovation in the AI era.

• Research new style Network File system storage; develop metadata management service and a workload-aware data and metadata access optimization algorithm.
• Perform system testing for a highly available and reliable data storage solution.
• Develop problem-determination solutions and drive toward root-cause identification and resolution in the storage environment.
• Participate in daily stand-ups and bi-weekly/monthly team meetings to report progress, discuss challenges, and stay aligned with project priorities.

The total target annual compensation for this position ranges from $58,000 to $104,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, and registered with the school’s co-op program.
• Knowledge and experience in AI/LLM and storage systems, operating system structures.
• Good understanding of file systems and LLM processing, such as metadata layout and LLM inference flow.
• Proficient in C, C++, and Python programming.
• Strong research capability and ability to learn new technologies/products quickly.
• Ability to handle complex tasks by assessing issues and breaking down problems to reach an optimal solution.
