Job Summary

The Corporate Security Manager is responsible for providing physical security governance and subject matter expertise to the Canadian business divisions, applying standards, and ensuring compliance with controls, policies, and processes. This key role ensures Aviva aligns with all regulatory requirements for securing the organization’s physical security buildings, assets, business, and personnel. The position will be based out of the Aviva Head Office in Markham, Ontario, with up to 30% travel across Aviva businesses and reports into the Senior Corporate Security Manager of Aviva Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Accountability for delivery of security services, security strategies, standards, and governance.
  • Support and lead the Group Security Standards, Controls, Policies, and assign findings to the team.
  • Drive improved value, SLAs, and management of possible third‑party contracts in the security team.
  • Conduct control testing, report gaps to management for remediation, and ensure risk and controls are addressed.
  • Ensure annual location security reviews and/or analysis are completed, assign, manage, and govern findings or improvements to different business divisions.
  • Work with Security Service Vendors to complete preventive maintenance across business locations by reviewing documented reports and governing risk levels and outcomes.
  • Proactively find opportunities to improve effectiveness and management of risks, policies, and processes for new initiatives.
  • Participate in the development of the technology roadmap and implementation of security tools to support the physical security team’s business needs.
  • Refine processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the function.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory regulations.
  • Provide specific focus and expertise to protect Aviva from terrorism risks (local and foreign) and malicious intrusion.
  • Develop and cultivate strong working relationships with collaborators, guests, regulatory bodies, and team members.
  • Build and maintain documentation (including reporting) on control processes and events; conduct regular periodic reviews and sign‑offs to keep content accurate and current.
  • Be available on-call with the Duty Manager rotation for escalations and business impacts after‑hours.
  • Take on Travel Security and Executive protection responsibilities and actions for the organization.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in corporate physical security within a large, complex organization, including management level or equivalent formal qualification in Physical Security Management.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing physical security programs and systems across multiple locations or jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of physical security risk management principles, threat landscapes, and controls within a large enterprise environment (preferably financial services).
  • Demonstrated experience managing security incidents and leading complex investigations into physical security breaches in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Ability to assess risk, make sound decisions, and deliver effective security solutions in fast‑paced, high‑pressure, and time‑sensitive situations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously while meeting short timelines and business demands.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, engaging all levels of the organization and translating complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities, driving performance and developing team effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) to support reporting, collaboration, and program delivery.
  • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation to support incident escalation and business continuity needs.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred; proficiency in both languages is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with physical security platforms and tools (access control, CCTV, incident management systems such as Software House, Avigilon, Resolver) is an asset.
