Co-op Engineer - Machine Learning and AI Infrastructure

Huawei Canada has an immediate co-op opening for an Engineer.

Founded in 2012, the Noah’s Ark lab has evolved into a prominent research organization with notable achievements in academia and industry. The lab’s mission focuses on advancing artificial intelligence and related fields to benefit the company and society. Driven by impactful, long-term projects, the aim is to enhance state-of-the‑art research while integrating innovations into the company's products and services, including Next Generation Foundation Model, Agentic Models, Physical AI and Reinforcement Learning.

• Develop and maintain software tools and infrastructure for machine learning and AI workflows. Build backend services, APIs, automation tools, and system integrations.
• Support large-scale experiment execution, evaluation, and data processing workflows.
• Debug technical issues and improve system reliability, performance, and usability.
• Work with researchers and engineers to understand requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.
• Communicate with internal users, collect feedback, and occasionally provide technical support for developed tools.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

The total target annual compensation for this position ranges from $58,000 to $104,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python. Solid software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, testing, Git, and working with existing codebases.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to learn unfamiliar technologies independently.
• Good communication skills and ability to clarify and understand technical requirements.
• Basic understanding of machine learning and modern AI systems.
• Experience with backend development, REST APIs, or databases.
• Experience with Docker, distributed systems, cloud or compute infrastructure
• Familiarity with LLMs, AI agents, or ML evaluation workflows. Experience with frontend development such as React or Type Script. Open‑source contributions, internships, or substantial personal software projects.
