Bridge Engineer – GFT
Join GFT’s Northeast Transportation team as a Bridge Engineer. This hybrid role will be based out of GFT’s New Jersey offices (Marlton or East Brunswick) or the New York City office.
What You Will DoWorking with the bridge team, you will engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and community connectivity. You’ll contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of bridge projects across the Northeast, ranging from multi‑span highway overpasses and complex river crossings to pedestrian bridges and culvert upgrades. You will apply advanced analysis and geometry work, collaborate with roadway, geotechnical, and traffic teams, and help pioneer solutions that drive multimodal connectivity and community value.
Responsibilities- Perform structural analyses, design, and verification of bridge geometry.
- Perform bridge load ratings.
- Develop structure plans for bridges and other transportation structures such as culverts, retaining walls, utility vaults, noise abatement walls, and pedestrian bridges.
- Participate in the development of construction contract documents, including specifications and cost estimates, and review shop drawings and other construction documents.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.
- EIT/FE Certification.
- 4+ years of progressive design experience in structural engineering for bridges and related structures.
- Understanding of standard engineering practices, techniques, and applicable codes.
- Proficiency with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Working knowledge of plan development with CADD (Micro Station and/or AutoCAD).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for engineering and business applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment, demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Prior experience with New Jersey Department of Transportation and/or New Jersey Turnpike Authority projects, including familiarity with client design policies, standards, and specifications.
- Experience with Bentley Open Bridge Designer (LEAPSteel), CSiBridge, and AASHTOWare BrR.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Active engagement in multiple perspectives when solving problems, willingness to learn from peers, and encouragement of reciprocal learning among team members.

Employment Status:
Full‑time.
Salary Range: $90,000 – $135,000 (dependent on experience and geographic location).
