Position Overview
The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) will be an addition to the DCE Team and assist with administrative help and support for the clinical education program. The person will report to the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy within the College of Health Sciences. This would involve directly interacting with students, site coordinators of clinical education (SCCEs), clinical instructors (CIs), and clinical sites.
This position would also entail student clinical education advising, clinical site interaction and problem solving as needed. This is a full-time position, and it is expected that this person will be on campus to be available for student meetings and teaching.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a non-tenured track faculty position with primary responsibilities to include student advising, clinical education administration, assistance in coordination and assessment of clinical experiences, and teaching courses as assigned by the chair of the department. The DCE will perform student clinical education advising, provide feedback on student performance, keep in close communication with students and clinical instructors during clinical experiences, conduct clinical education site visits as appropriate (includes some travel), assist DCE Team in maintenance of electronic database, and review required student paperwork.
Other expectations include the potential for additional hours as a lab instructor.
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
The DCE needs to have knowledge and experience with clinical education and knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy. Understanding of PT clinical practice in the context of student development is a must. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, with clinical instructor experience and/or SCCE experience required. DPT degree and WI licensure (or eligibility) required.
Must be or have plan to complete APTA Level 1 credentialed CI course within 6 months and Level 2 within a year of Level
1. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem solving, counseling, and conflict resolution skills required.
Preferred Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Prior teaching experiences in a PT academic program and/or administrative experience in clinical practice is preferred. Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education. Earned status as APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor. Strong knowledge or Marquette’s PT curriculum. Strong computer and technology skills preferred.
