A Surgical Scrub Tech who excels in this role:
This is an Obstetric Department and there are more duties to this position than just surgical scrub tech.
- Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
- Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
- Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
- Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
- Performs on call services as requested.
- Actively participates and ensures room turnovers are efficient and timely.
- Restocking the department labor and postpartum rooms
- Clinical equipment checks
- Checking out dates on supplies
- Assisting at vaginal deliveries if surgical lacerations or repairs are needed
- Assist in opening the OR in an emergency
- Cleaning out the OR - trash, instruments
- Vaginal instrument cleaning and getting ready for sterile processing
- Major Abdominal surgery
- Total/partial hysterectomy
- Bladder/urinary surgeries/repair
- Hemorrhage
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. - Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. This is Fast paced, busy clinic. Large group of physicians - Minimum
Work Experience:
One year related experience, preferred. One year clinic experience, preferred. - Certifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Education:
Certified Surgical Technology Program - Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. - Certifications:
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) - Work Experience:
1-year related experience (preferred)
