Position Title: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair or Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
Department: Plant Operations
Term of Assignment: Continuing
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt = overtime eligible
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
Travel: No travel
Salary: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair $26.35 starting/$27.73 working;
Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair $28.47 starting/$29.89 working
Under general supervision, provide skills and engage in technical maintenance repair and renovation work in and around university buildings.
Minimum Qualifications Required EducationHigh School Graduation or Equivalent
Required Specialized Training/Certifications- Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair and Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
- Current journeyman plumber license in the State of Michigan
- Current and valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Current Approved/Certified Backflow Preventer Assemblies Tester in the State of Michigan
- Special training in steam trap surveying, testing utilizing diagnostic equipment, and repairing
- Two years of experience in the plumbing or pipe fitting trade, including heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, domestic and hydronic water, air, condensate and/or sewage systems and equipment (Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair)
- Five years of experience in the plumbing or pipe fitting trade, including heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, domestic and hydronic water, air, condensate and/or sewage systems and equipment (Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair)
- Relevant plumbing, pipe fitting, and HVAC system installations, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance, including air handling units, pumping systems, air compressors, steam and hot water systems, steam traps, domestic water systems, plumbing fixtures, heat exchangers, etc.
- Building and construction materials, methods, and tools involved in construction
- Plumbing, mechanical and ventilation codes and design and engineering principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings
- Building structural systems and electrical systems operations
- Computer applications (e.g., word processing, email, internet, web‑based programs)
- Equipment operation monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnosis, installation, maintenance, and repair
- Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with a broad variety of people and prepare quality correspondence
- Excellent critical thinking skills and good judgment; able to effectively analyze situations and solve problems
- Effective interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize, plan work, and handle multiple tasks
- Excellent customer service skills
- Physically capable to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
- May be required to successfully complete oral, written or performance tests
- Willingness to conduct and assist in custodial, housekeeping and maintenance in‑service training and workshops
- Must have mechanical aptitude to accomplish assigned duties
