Your job is more than a job. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to Nuclear Medicine, including operation of Nuclear Medicine equipment to produce images, measuring concentrations of radioactive isotopes for imaging and therapies, and presenting educational information to physicians and technical staff. They may also monitor supplies and perform routine departmental maintenance as needed.

Day to DayGeneral duties
- Provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions.
- Performs the technical aspects of Nuclear Medicine procedures displaying quality and proficiency.
- Performs daily calibrations and records results as per protocol.
- Sets camera/computer according to protocol.
- Correctly sets count, intensity, energy windows and selects proper collimator.
- Demonstrates job knowledge by selecting correct acquisition parameters.
- Reviews physician orders with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained as required.
- Provides and performs training in accordance to the hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assess and evaluate the trainee and provide feedback to the Radiology Manager.
Administers sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of the patient:
- Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patient s chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
- Accepts patients and assesses their condition.
Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of patients and employees.
- Checks and inspects the suite, equipment and accessories daily for physical or mechanical hazards. Troubleshoots malfunctions and reports dangerous conditions.
- Maintains work area in a clean orderly fashion.
- Checks stock supply levels, maintains supplies at par level and displays effort in supply maintenance and utilization.
- Cleans and disinfects equipment.
- Maintains supply of linen in the room.
Maintains Quality Control Checks In Accordance With Policy Requirements
- Participates in department QC and PI programs, follows up on all deficiencies.
- Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures, practices aseptic techniques and adheres to body substance isolation policies.
- Wears film badge while on duty and follows departmental badge procedures for results.
- Actively maintains all regulatory compliance.
Completes ancillary tasks
- Records required information on requisitions accurately and legibly.
- Pulls previous films, exams, and reports; records information and performs file room duties as required.
- Charges for procedures and performs other routine clerical duties; inputs and verifies data in PACS/RIS.
Demonstrates Safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department and hospital protocols and regulatory guidelines:
- Recognizes emergent situations and responds appropriately; calls codes as needed.
- Observes and monitors patient vital signs.
- Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during radiographic procedures.
Must Haves

Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or Nuclear Medicine Technician through the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners
- Competence in venipuncture and nuclear medicine therapies.
