• Testing Procedures:
  Ensure specimens received by the Laboratory are acceptable for testing by applying the appropriate criteria. Label, accession, and distribute specimens to maintain patient identification integrity throughout processing. Operate both primary and secondary instrumentation. Report test results within established turn-around times after verifying documentation. Recognize and refer abnormal, unusual, and critical results to the Supervisor. Perform latex serologies and rapid antigen testing within established policies.
  
  Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate blood supplier. Follow universal precautions at all times when dealing with blood or body fluids. Disinfect counters daily with appropriate cleaner. Follow Hospital/Laboratory safety and infection control policies and report variances to section Supervisors as they occur.
• Preventive Maintenance/Quality Assurance:
  Properly operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments after orientation. Analyze quality control materials for each procedure and record values according to section policy. Conduct comparison studies of precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing procedures and report results by established deadlines. Ensure proper packaging and disposal of waste chemicals.
• Laboratory Information System Operation:
  Perform order or result entry (manual or computerized) and review information for accuracy before verification. Prepare legible written reports. Retrieve results to resolve questions and assist nurses, physicians or other hospital personnel.
• Supply Management:
  Check instruments and benches for appropriate reagent and supply levels and replenish as needed. Ensure adequate inventory levels for incoming shifts.
• Specimen Processing/Shipping:
  Perform proper processing and preservation of tissue specimens. Comply with proper specimen storage and preservation procedures.

• Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist–Technician (CLS – TECHNICIAN) through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners

• Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques.
• Knowledge of standard phlebotomy and skin puncture techniques and appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.
• Ability to perform routine medical laboratory tests, procedures and analysis.
• Ability to accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records, follow clinical protocol, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
