The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to Ultrasound. Provides clinical services according to radiology/imaging practice standards. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in the use of all ultrasound equipment and performance of all protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for procedure. Provides educational presentations to physicians and technical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Performs complex technical aspects of Diagnostic Ultrasound and produces images of internal organs displaying quality and proficiency. Observes and monitors patient's vital signs and medical equipment during the procedure. Reviews physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained as required. Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS.
  • Communicates effectively with patients to obtain informed consent while optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination. Explains procedure to patients/families, answers questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
  • Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Checks and inspects the suite, equipment, and accessories daily for hazards or malfunctions. Troubleshoots malfunctions immediately. Monitors supply levels and cleans/disinfects equipment.
  • Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures and practices aseptic techniques, adhering strictly to hospital policy on body substance isolation.
  • Consistently, accurately, and legibly records the required information on requisitions. Performs routine clerical duties as assigned and inputs the verified data into PACS/RIS.
Experience and Education Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent (including training from United States Armed Forces).
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider – American Heart Association
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Society of Medical Sonography (SMDS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques, standard phlebotomy, skin puncture techniques, and appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analysis.
  • Ability to accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocols and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
