Base pay range$19.00/hr - $25.00/hr
POSITION TYPE: Full-time
LOCATION: DeNooyer Chevy, Marshall
PAY: $19 - $25 flat rate, depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY: The Apprentice Technician performs basic maintenance and light repairs on customer vehicles. Primary goals are safe, efficient performance of all maintenance and repair tasks as defined in dealership processes and policies. Are you looking to ramp up your career as an Automotive Technician? - Valid Michigan Driver’s license and an insurable driving record – We sell, service, and drive cars, it's what we do!
- Ability to read, speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way – Bi‑lingual folks encouraged to apply!
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Performs basic maintenance and light repairs on customer vehicles
- Conducts multi‑point inspections of customer vehicles to identify needed maintenance services and repairs
- Uses and maintains dealership‑provided tools and equipment in proper operating condition
- Documents inspection findings and maintenance requirements clearly and accurately and communicates them to the line technician
- Communicates pro‑actively with other associates to ensure a smooth, safe flow of work through the shop – Communication is key!
- Quality‑checks own work and the work of other technicians as requested – We want to keep our customers safe!
- Inject grease into units such as springs, universal joints, and steering knuckles, using hand or compressed‑air powered grease gun
- Inspect fluid levels of steering gear, power steering reservoir, transmission, differential, rear axle housings
- Follow all required safety and hazardous materials procedures as required by dealership policies and applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA and MIOSHA – We want you to stay safe out there!
- Check air pressure of tires
- Lubricate moving parts with specified lubricants
- Drain oil from crankcase and refill with required amount of oil
- Add water to radiator and battery
- Replace oil, coolant, and air filters
- Top off windshield washer fluid
- Complete alignments
- Proper and thorough review of each vehicle per the inspection sheet
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Relate positively and courteously with diverse groups of people (customers, visitors, and staff)
- All other duties as assigned
- Ability to stand for six to nine and a half hours per shift
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and stretch
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to work in a shop which may experience, but is not limited to conditions such as varying temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials – You know, all that usual stuff found in shops
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
