Industrial Firefighter/Emergency Response Technician, Blue Oval Battery Park Michigan

Join Ford Motor Company as an Industrial Firefighter / Emergency Response Technician at Blue Oval Battery Park Michigan. This role involves protecting personnel, equipment, and the environment from fire and hazardous material incidents while supporting specialized rescue and medical operations.

Responsibilities
  • Fire Suppression – Respond immediately to all types of fires using the appropriate extinguishing agents and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain fire apparatus, pumps, hoses, nozzles, and other specialized firefighting equipment.
  • Search and rescue operations for personnel within hazardous environments.
  • Perform ventilation, overhaul, and salvage operations as required.
  • Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat) Response – Identify, assess, contain, control, and mitigate spills or releases of hazardous materials.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) such as SCBA and chemical protective suits.
  • Execute decontamination procedures for personnel and equipment.
  • Medical Aid – Provide pre‑hospital medical care, including first aid, CPR, and AED operation, and stabilize patients for handover to EMS.
  • Technical Rescue – Participate in specialized rescue operations such as confined space rescue, high‑angle rescue, and machine rescue, using specialized tools safely.
  • Emergency Standby & Hot Work Coverage – Provide fire and safety coverage for high‑risk operations, ensuring safety protocols and permit conditions are strictly followed.
  • Incident Command System (ICS) Support – Operate within the established ICS structure during emergencies, follow direct orders, maintain accountability, and provide clear status reports.
  • Maintenance – Inspect, clean, lubricate, and perform scheduled maintenance on fire prevention equipment and apparatus to ensure operational readiness.
  • Facility Inspections – Conduct routine fire safety inspections of buildings, storage areas, and equipment to identify potential hazards and non‑compliance issues.
  • Pre‑Incident Planning – Participate in developing and reviewing pre‑incident plans for various scenarios, understanding building layouts and emergency egress routes.
  • Permit System Compliance – Review and verify compliance for hot work, confined space entry, and other safety‑related permits.
  • Risk Assessment – Identify and assess risks related to fire, explosion, and other emergencies within the industrial environment.
  • Safety Adherence – Strictly follow all company policies, SOPs, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Inventory Management – Maintain accurate inventory of firefighting supplies, Haz Mat absorbents, medical supplies, and rescue equipment.
  • Continuous Learning – Participate in all required internal and external training, drills, and exercises; maintain physical fitness standards necessary for the job.
  • Internal Training Support – Assist in developing and delivering fire safety and emergency preparedness training to facility personnel.
  • Incident Reporting – Document all incidents, near‑misses, inspections, training activities, and equipment maintenance accurately and timely.
  • Effective Constructive Communication – Utilize constructive communication skills with team members, peers, leadership, personnel, and external emergency services.
  • Shift Handovers – Conduct thorough and detailed handovers at the end of shifts, ensuring critical information and pending tasks are clearly communicated to incoming personnel.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Nevada NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II (or equivalent state/provisional certification).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of emergency services experience as a certified firefighter.
  • Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills under pressure.
  • Excellent decision‑making abilities in high‑stress situations.
  • Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to pass an NFPA firefighter physical.
  • Acute attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to strictly follow instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols.
  • Exceptional computer skills, reading and data interpretation.
