Meat Cutter

Hy‑Vee, Inc. is seeking a Meat Specialist to cut, grind, and merchandize fresh meat commodities. This non‑exempt role supports customer service and department operations in a fast‑paced environment.

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner in the designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
• Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Tenderize, grind, and cut merchandise; prepare cutting lists for case fills; conduct cutting tests.
• Order new items (not strictly for replenishment).
• Monitor refrigeration for proper temperatures and maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines; report to work when scheduled and on time.

• Manage the department in the absence of the department manager and assistant department manager.
• Wrap, weigh, and label product; perform cleaning in the department; replenish and organize coolers.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed; perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.

• High School diploma or equivalent. Hy‑Vee food safety training required.
• Over one year of related work experience preferred.
• Strong arithmetic skills; ability to conduct cutting tests and maintain tight temperature control.
• Solve practical problems; interpret instructions; perform basic direction.

• Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; up to 50 pounds frequently; up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision.
• Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Exposed daily to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals/solvents, and electrical shock. This is a fast‑paced work environment.

The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $12.00 to $15.00 depending on experience.
