Safety Officer - Iowa Veterans

Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is seeking a full‑time Safety Officer to work under the guidance of the Bureau Chief. The role is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a culture of safety in accordance with federal and state laws.

• Develop safety program packages and information materials.
• Interpret occupational safety laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to the IDVA and ensure compliance.
• Provide staff training in occupational safety and assist the Quality & Compliance Bureau Chief with safety education programs.
• Lead disaster preparedness and emergency operations, collaborating with agencies such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee, state emergency management, Iowa National Guard, and city governments.
• Serve as liaison with the State Fire Marshal's Office and facility licensing/certifying agencies.
• Perform administrative duties: obtain and compile information, prepare and maintain safety logs, MDS, and perform audits as required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in occupational and environmental health, engineering, or human resources management; OR four years of full‑time professional work experience in human resources/safety administration (including development and implementation of a safety program, accident prevention, loss control, facility inspection, employee training); OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience totaling four years.
