Overview

The Patient Care Technician is a member of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort for patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Reports and records observations and contributes to the efficient functionality of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the RN and healthcare team to support patient care outcomes and goals of care.
  • Perform delegated tasks per competency and seek guidance when completing new or unfamiliar duties.
  • Obtain, record, and accurately enter patient data into the EMR according to PCT Scope of Practice standards.
  • Complete documentation promptly to ensure an accurate legal record of patient care.
  • Communicate factual, concise, and timely patient information to the RN, healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Provide 1:1 observation for high-risk patients after completing CPI and sitter orientation.
  • Conduct thorough, safety-focused hand-offs to communicate treatment plans, assessments, and patient needs.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient and workplace safety by preventing and reporting errors, accidents, and infections.
  • Maintain accountability for knowing the current condition and needs of assigned patients.
Qualifications
  • Completion of RN/Education lead training Day within 6 months of hire.
